The role

Purpose of Role:

The role combines technical and commercial expertise in project management. Leading and managing projects, primarily modifications projects, from design through to aircraft delivery and start of operations, but also including improvement projects in other areas of the company. The role requires taking personal ownership for these projects, promoting project management capability and culture in the company, as well as overseeing and assuring the delivery of project management reporting to the managing director.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage projects by taking personal ownership for these projects, ensuring delivery to agreed time scales and budgets. This covers, amongst others, the Part 21J/G, Part 145, AOC and ATO activities as required by the project.
  • Assist the managing director in all aspects of project and risk management.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed schedule appropriate for the scale of the project.
  • Develop a resource plan (man-power, tooling, facilities) and coordinate with the management of the departments involved in the project to ensure that budgeted project resources are available and assigned in line with the resource plan.
  • Develop in coordination with the commercial, design, maintenance and supply chain teams, quotations and cost estimates for the projects.
  • Requirement and change control
  • Ensure project requirements are captured and understood at both the conceptual and the implementation phase.
  • Ensure that the project requirements are implemented to scheduled milestones as identified in the project master schedule.
  • Work closely with the commercial, design, maintenance and supply chain teams to ensure that changes are introduced in a controlled fashion and that risks emerging from contract change are managed.
  • Ensure that appropriate disciplines are maintained within to identify and manage project risks.
  • Maintain a project risk register and a risk review process to define and initiate risk mitigation actions.
  • Reporting & administration
  • Ensure that Project status is reported in line with project reporting, contract requirements and risk management processes.
  • Establish and manage key performance metrics and reporting measures for operational, project and risk management activities related to the projects.
  • Ensure that projects are closed down and archived.
  • Quality & Training
  • To assist the managing director in ensuring that high standards of airworthiness and engineering practice and efficiency are promoted and maintained within the company.
  • Ensure compliance with the requirements of the company’s approvals, manuals and procedures.
  • Ensure that project lessons identified are captured and acted upon.
  • Assist in the development of project management skills within the company.

Qualifications:

Essential
  • Good technical understanding supported by a relevant degree, HNC or equivalent aerospace experience.
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Good practical understanding of aviation legislation with regards to modification and maintenance projects (EASA Part 21 and Part 145).
  • Experience of the development and implementation of project, programme and risk management systems and reporting for aircraft modification projects (preferably civil avionics modifications).
  • Experience of team leadership/people management.
  • Experience of leading and working within multi-disciplined teams.
  • Fully competent with the full suite of MS Office including MS Project or industry standard planning tool.
Desirable
  • Experience of developing and utilising project management and risk management tools to best suit diverse business needs.
